TANZANIA BUYER GUIDE

BLS vs ALS Ambulance: What Tanzania Buyers Must Specify

A practical comparison of BLS and ALS procurement scope, vehicle integration, staffing and acceptance evidence.

The label is not the specification

BLS and ALS describe intended clinical capability, but the accepted vehicle depends on the crew, protocols, equipment, power, oxygen and patient-compartment design written into the contract.

BLS procurement focus

  • Safe patient handling and restraint
  • Basic oxygen, suction and airway support
  • Immobilisation and infection-control storage
  • Reliable lighting, cooling and auxiliary power

ALS procurement focus

  • Monitor/defibrillator, ventilator and infusion support
  • Higher oxygen and electrical endurance
  • Secure device mounts and working clearance
  • Calibration, registration, training and service ownership

Selection test

If the clinical team cannot define the devices, crew roles and protocols, do not buy an “ALS” label. Start with a signed clinical and equipment schedule, then choose the vehicle platform that safely supports it.
